Experience

Following university and initial employment in sales and marketing, Andrew McCammon has worked in the environment for twenty years, during which time he coordinated and/or facilitated about 200 environmental projects or events and has been the chief author/editor of about 200 environmental publications, reports, or submissions to agencies. Consulting Principle of Thousand Small Steps, 1990–1998, and Project Management for the Environment, 2001-2004. Each were closed in order to pursue opportunities in agencies.

Key accomplishments include:

  • Staging a two-day Enviro-Fair at the Ontario Science Centre, with tables from over 50 organizations and attendance of over 7,000 people
  • Coordinating Canadian participation in a Pollution Prevention Symposium at a biennial meeting of the International Joint Commission, securing the participation of over 100 Canadians involved in business and community actions in P2
  • Providing marketing and training services to the Great Lakes Pollution Prevention Center, with specific responsibility for outreach to municipalities and small & medium-sized enterprises
  • Serving as the Editor of Ontario’s Green Cleaner’s Manual
  • Facilitating the founding meeting of the City of Toronto’s Clean Air Partnership, then securing funding for and managing two projects for the Partnership
  • Revitalizing a local advisory committee, leading to the construction Ontario’s largest artificial deciduous swamp and 900 metres of streamside trail
  • Facilitated a provincial discussion on air quality and climate change for the Clean Air Foundation
  • Synthesizing preliminary text and survey responses into two papers for Pollution Probe

Agency Experience

  • Environment Canada: Several contracts supporting early efforts under the Green Plan
  • Toronto and Region Conservation Authority: two years as a consultant to and 4 years as a staff Environmental Coordinator
  • City of Vaughan: Short tenure as the Environmental Coordinator before the position was abolished, but during which Andrew facilitated the creation of three green teams and a GTA environmental coordinators’ network, and
  • Ontario Ministry of the Environment: 1.5 year contract with the Air Policy and Climate Change Branch
